Library Board President Eyes Future Building

?2011 Galesburg Broadcasting Co.

Library Board President Eyes Future Building 2012 may see the biggest progress yet toward finding and building a new Galesburg Public Library facility.

Library board president Martin Reichel told the WGIL Evening News Monday work will start this month trying to move toward building a facility.

Reichel states the board will look first at updating a building plan that was first approved nearly five-years ago.

?That?s where we look at what size of a library we are going to need, and of course the point that comes up is do we really need a new library?? he said. ?And yes, we do. The existing building was built after the fire, I believe it was 1958 or 59?.?

?There was insufficient funding to rebuild an equivalent, quality library.?

The library board is still eyeing the former Super 8 property on West Main Street, and is going to try and work with the city to get all the land in the area that they may need, including a trade for land the library has on the former OT Johnson?s site.

The board believes that site would in no way be adequate for a library.
